But just because life is busy, doesn’t mean that we compromise on eating healthy. It is my job to prepare healthy foods in a matter of minutes that the entire family will enjoy! Less time in the kitchen means spending more time enjoying the company!
One of our all-time favorite meat brands is True Story Foods, and for good reason. True Story meats don’t contain any artificial ingredients, and they care about the quality of their products. My boys love the cooked chicken sausages, and it’s the perfect go-to when I don’t feel like cooking a single thing. Needless to say, this house is always stocked to the max with True Story Foods products.
So, summer is officially here – exciting, right? One thing you can always find us doing on Sundays is barbequing in the backyard. We toss some True Story Foods beef hot dogs and chicken sausages on the grill, roast up some veggies, and sit outside enjoying the warm weather (and a glass of wine for the adults!).
But the reality is, firing up the grill requires a lot of work and clean up. Sometimes you want to grill on a weeknight and not have to deal with any of that. Or perhaps you don’t even own a grill. Guess what? That’s perfectly okay!
The beauty of True Story meats is that their natural casing holds up really well when you grill inside the house on a simple grill pan. In fact, their hot dogs are skinless, and yet you can still achieve those beautiful sear marks that we all crave, along with that fresh grilled taste. I highly recommend investing in a cast iron grill pan, because it’s something you will have for life. I personally love the Lodge brand for all my cast iron needs, because of their affordable price point (think $20-30 for a grill pan), as well as the quality of the product. I’ve seen them sold at Target and on Amazon.
So grab your cast iron grill pan, your favorite True Story meats, and turn on the fan, because it’s time to make some kid-friendly hot dogs topped with fresh mango salsa – a summertime favorite!
True Story Beef Hot Dogs with Fresh Mango Salsa
1 package True Story Foods Uncured Beef Hot Dogs
5 hot dog buns of choice
2 mangos, roughly chopped (pro tip: if you are in a rush, I buy pre-chopped mango and come home and chop it into tinier pieces)
¼ cup chopped red onion
½ organic red bell pepper, chopped into tiny pieces
¼ bunch chopped cilantro
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Avocado oil for the grill pan
Heat cast iron skillet on the stove and add some avocado oil to the pan. Once hot, add the hot dogs, and let them cook for about 5 minutes before flipping to the other side. While the hot dogs are cooking, prepare the mango salsa! Add mangos, red onion, bell pepper, cilantro, juice from half a lime, olive oil, and mix together well. Add salt and pepper to taste. Next, assemble your hot dogs. Line buns on a plate and fill with hot dogs. Spoon some salsa over the top, and enjoy right away!
