FAQs

Where are the animals raised?

All of the animals are raised on sustainable farms and ranches in the US and Canada where they are never –– ever –– caged, crated or inhumanely confined.

Our organic chicken and turkey come from farms in Northern California, Nebraska, Michigan, and Virginia, and have access to the outdoors.
Our organic beef comes from cattle that roam massive pasture-lands in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado.

Our organic ham comes from hogs raised in Quebec, Canada. The hogs have roomy indoor spaces and outdoor access.

Our natural ham comes from hogs raised in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska. The hogs are free to forage and root, and enjoy enrichment materials such as straw and hay.

What are the animals fed?

All of the animals are 100% vegetarian fed. They are never given animal byproducts, antibiotics, growth stimulants, or hormones. Clean, fresh water is available to them at all times.

Our poultry are fed a vegetarian blend of organic corn and soy.
Our organic beef comes from cattle that are 100% grass-fed.

Our organic hogs are fed organic corn, grain sorghum, soybean meal, oats, and a vitamin/mineral supplement –– all GMO-free.

Our natural hogs are fed the same diet, but the grains sourced may not necessarily be organic or non-GMO. The vast majority of corn and soy grown in the U.S. is genetically modified, but we’re working with our farmers to find non-GMO solutions.
Are your organic products non-GMO?

Yes, all of our organic products are GMO-free! In order for a product to be labeled “USDA Organic”, genetically modified organisms must not be used.

All of our organic farms are certified and follow the standards set by the USDA National Organic Program. They’re routinely audited to ensure they’re meeting all expectations.

Where are your meats processed?

Our meats are processed in the U.S. in facilities that meet the strictest standards for the humane treatment of animals and the cleanliness and care exercised throughout the process.

What are “natural flavorings”?

Natural flavorings are exactly that –– 100% natural. They are derived from botanical sources like vegetables, fruits, and spices. Rest assured there are no chemicals, animal products, MSG, or artificial ingredients used in any of our products.

Do your products contain nitrites, gluten, dairy, nuts, wheat or MSG?

Let’s start with nitrites. Our products contain only naturally occurring nitrites such as those found in celery as a result of photosynthesis. No synthetic nitrites are added.

With the exception of our jerky products, which contain soy sauce, our products are gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and wheat-free. That said, they’re made in a facility that does use those ingredients in other products and they do share the same production line. While all equipment is thoroughly washed before making our product and our meats have always tested negative for traces of these ingredients, people with severe sensitivities should be aware of the process.

Finally, our products have no MSG.

Are your sausages fully cooked?

Yes, all of our sausages and hot dogs are fully cooked. Just heat, serve and enjoy!

I see that your hot dogs have sugar and fat added. Why?

Our chefs spent countless hours experimenting with and fine-tuning the recipe for our hot dogs. We added as little fat and sugar as possible to get the robust flavor and juiciness people love.

Do your hot dogs and sausages have casings?

Nearly all of our hot dogs and sausages are skinless, so no animal casing is used. They are formed and cooked in a cellulose casing, which is removed after cooking.

The Organic Sweet Italian Chicken Sausage sold at Costco is formed, cooked, and kept in a natural pork casing. This traditional style of sausage making gives the product a delicious, snappy bite.

What’s the best way to handle and store your products? Can they be frozen?

Our products should be kept in refrigerated conditions at all times. We recommend using an insulated grocery or lunch bag with ice packs whenever transporting the product, whether it’s to home from the grocery store or to a school lunch table.

Our meats can be enjoyed all the way up to the “use by” date as long as the package is unopened and always properly refrigerated. Once opened, please consume within 3-5 days, regardless of the expiration date. As for being frozen, the answer is yes –– freeze-away. If you do choose to freeze the product, we recommend that you do so in an unopened package as early as possible before the expiration date.

Does your packaging contain any BPA?

Our packaging is all BPA-free!

I love the way your deli meat tastes but why is it so difficult to peel?

Because of how natural our deli meats are, it can be difficult to peel the slices apart cleanly. One little trick is to peel 2 or 3 slices apart from the stack as one piece, then remove the individual slices from there. Please know that we are continuously working to improve the product and appreciate your feedback and suggestions.
